He explained that the bridge has a span of 2.5 km, and at the middle is the 60 meters long section that is drawn so as to allow the mixture o naval flow and road traffic. “It is 16 meters wide, four lanes and is going to allow also the direct access to the port from this place where we are to the Highway 21st Century. This is going to save the city Lazaro Cardenas the large flow of cars and trucks which, naturally, is a great bother for the population”, he said. He pointed out that with this, not only commerce is benefited, not just the port, not just the efficiency of our economy, but also the great traffic problem that is lived in Lazaro Cardenas. He informed that, at the port, the Federal Government is investing more than 2,200 millions of Mexican pesos on this Administration. “I mean, we are really making it, if not the best, at least one of the best and most efficient ports in Mexico, giving a strong competition to Veracruz. This will benefit Michoacan and, I insist, will benefit Mexico”, added President Calderon. And he affirmed, “we are going to make Lazaro a strategic point for the commercial exchange, not only for Mexico’s interior, but also between Asia and the Pacific with Mexico, United States and even the crossing towards Europe”. On the other hand, he said that his government is pushing strongly the infrastructure. “I think that many things can be said, good actions and mistakes of the Federal Government, but if there is something that we are really pushing, is infrastructure”, he reaffirmed. He announced that in three years, more than double work on infrastructure has been done than during the period 1994-2000, and also that 20 per cent more has been done than what was done during the previous six years. “And I said that it would be the presidential period of the infrastructure, and it is happening. We are fulfilling our word. Here in Michoacan, besides the 2,000 million pesos that we are putting into Lazaro and the port, we are committing ourselves this year to close to 2,000 million pesos more for the state, only in matters of roads”, ended the President. ----
